J. R. White letter, 1864.

This collection contains one letter from J. R. White to "Cynthia and children" dated 23 August 1864. The letter was written when White served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 7th Texas Infantry in the line of battle seven miles Southeast of Atlanta, Georgia, during General Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. In the letter White discusses the prospect of peace, the South's determination to continue slavery, his regiment's movement and battles, and Confederate money.
